Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Signal moving its headquarters?
Our headquarters move is a positive, forward-looking decision. After years in the same building, the facility no longer meets modern workspace or technological needs. Rather than invest heavily in renovating an outdated space, we chose to move to a newer building that better supports our employees, operations, and long-term service to members. The sale of our current building funds this transition responsibly.
Is Signal moving because of financial trouble or instability?
Signal Financial remains financially strong with stable capital reserves, consistent growth, and a healthy loan portfolio. This is an investment in our future, not a reaction to financial pressure. We chose to make this move from a position of strength to better serve you for decades to come.
Will this affect the safety of my accounts or my money?
No. All member deposits remains fully insured by the NCUA. Your money, your account numbers, your access, all of that stays exactly the same. This is a physical office move for our headquarters and one branch location, not a change to our core banking systems, financial infrastructure, or regulatory standing. Your accounts are backed by the same federal insurance, the same secure technology, and the same commitment to safety.
Will branch locations or hours change because of this move?
The Kensington branch will remain open through year-end with the same hours of operation. In late year, we will open a new, modern branch at 1 Inventa Place in Silver Spring to better serve the community. All other Signal Financial branches remain open with no changes to hours, services, or staffing. Members will have continuous access to in-person banking throughout the entire transition.
Will customer service or call center support be disrupted?
No. Phone support, online chat, mobile app support will continue completely uninterrupted. In fact, we are expanding our capabilities to provide even more support options during and after the transaction. Our member service teams are not moving until everything is tested and ready, ensuring zero disruption to your ability to reach us.
Is Signal leaving the community or the area?
Not at all. Our headquarters is moving to 6720 Rockledge Drive in Bethesda—we are staying local and committed to this region. Our new Kensington branch at 1 Inventa Place keeps us rooted in the Silver Spring/Kensington community where we have served members for years. All other branch locations remain exactly where they are. We remain committed to serving the communities where our members live and work.
Will this change fees, rates, or products?
No. This move does not affect loan rates, deposit rates, account fees, or any products or services we offer. Everything you have today stays exactly the same. The investments we are making in new facilities and technology are funded through the sale of our current building and strategic operational reserves, not through member fees or rate adjustments. Our commitment to competitive rates and low fees remains unchanged.
How does this move benefit members?
Members benefit in several direct ways: (1) Better technology means more improved uptime and features. (2) Improved operational efficiency allows us to process requests faster and resolve issues more effectively. (3) A new, modern branch location at 1 Invicta Place provides enhanced accessibility, parking, and updated amenities. (4) Expanded Virtual Branch services gives you more ways to connect with live support without visiting a branch. This is an investment specifically designed to improve your banking experience.
Are employees being laid off or relocated because of the move?
No layoffs are planned as part of this transition. Our team members will move to the new locations, and we are actively working to support them through the transition process. For staff who face commute changes, we are exploring flexible work arrangements and providing transition assistance where appropriate. This move is designed to improve the work environment for our employees, because when our team has better tools and spaces, they can serve you better.
