Moving Tips

“I love moving! It’s so easy!”, said no one ever. But it doesn’t have to be such a drag. Here are our top 5 moving hacks.

Color code your boxes

Give each room a color! For example, kitchen could be blue, living room could be red, and so on. Buy some color stickers or tape to put on each box and save yourself some time by not scribbling each room name on boxes.

Use towels, clothes, and blankets as packing material

Skip the bubble wrap. Use that comfy sweater grandma gave you last Christmas instead! Not only is this method environmentally friendly, it also minimizes the number of boxes you’ll need to move.

Put heavy objects in rolling luggage

If your rolling luggage is durable enough to take it, put the heaviest items in them. You’ll thank yourself later when you’re rolling along pulling a handle instead of struggling to lift heavy boxes.

Cut handles into boxes

Avoid saying, “It’s not heavy, it’s just awkward!” by cutting handles into your boxes. Cutting a simple V shape wide enough to get four fingers in will help you get a better grip while the part of the cardboard you cut provides extra reinforcement.

Update your address on accounts weeks ahead of the move

The USPS can take 7 to 10 business days to officially change your address. Do it a few weeks ahead of time to avoid the lag of mail-forwarding. You could miss something important if you don’t!
