Notary Services

As a service to members and non-members, Signal Financial provides Notary and Medallion Guarantee services to add legal authenticity to contracts, wills and other important documents. Each branch has at least one commissioned Notary Public on staff.  This service is free during normal business hours—no appointment is necessary.

To have a document notarized, make sure the document is unsigned and all signers bring photo identification such as a valid driver’s license or passport.

Overdraft Protection

Overdraft Protection Coverage Options

An Overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  • We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  • We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to another account or a line of credit, which may be less costly than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.

THIS NOTICE EXPLAINS OUR STANDARD OVERDRAFT PRACTICES.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number (ACH auto debits)
  • Automatic bill payments and recurring debit card transactions
  • TellerPhone and eBanking transactions

We will not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions without your consent.

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

What fees will I be charged if Signal Financial Federal Credit Union pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of $31 each time we pay an overdraft
  • There is no limit per day on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account

What if I want Signal Financial Federal Credit Union to authorize and pay overdrafts on my ATM and everyday debit card transactions?

If you want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM and everyday debit card transactions, call (301) 933-9100 x298, visit our website at www.signalfinancialfcu.org, complete the form below and present it at a branch or mail it to: 3015 University Boulevard W, Kensington, MD 20895, Attn: Member Services. You can revoke your authorization for Signal Financial Federal Credit Union to pay these overdrafts at any time by any of the above methods. Your revocation must include both your name and your account number so that we can properly identify your account.

Skip-a-Pay

Take a month “off” from your loan payment — now available all year long!

Whether it’s for an extra night stay for your next trip, a purchase you’ve been wanting to make, or catching up on bills, give yourself something extra with Skip-A-Pay.

  • Available for auto, personal, and share secured loans
  • Must be enrolled in a Signal bundle
  • Send your request at least 5 days* before your loan payment is due
  • Available year-round—choose the month you want to skip*
  • A small one-time fee of $30 will be applied
  • Auto-payments outside of Signal Financial need to be adjusted by you

Skip-A-Pay request must be received at least 5 days prior to regular payment due date for the loan. Skip-A-Pay is an ongoing program available all year long. Available only for vehicle loans, personal loans, and share secured loans. May only skip one month per loan in a 12 month period. To apply, must be a member of Signal Financial FCU in good standing; be enrolled in a Connect, Direct, or Premium relationship bundle; and have made a minimum of 6 regular monthly payments on the subject loan prior to the Skip-A-Pay request. The subject loan must have never been delinquent 30 or more days. Not all members or loans will be eligible for Skip-A-Pay. Once the Skip-A-Pay is approved, a fee of $30 will be assessed, the due date will be advanced, and the term of the loan will extend by one month past the original date. Fee must be collected at time of request via direct debit from member’s Signal account. Interest will continue to accrue during Skip-A-Pay period. Skip-A-Pay does not affect GAP Waiver coverage (if purchased) on vehicle loans.

VISA Purchase Alerts

VISA Purchase Alerts Quick Guide

Signal Financial members who have VISA® debit or credit cards may now set up purchase alerts for their cards. These alerts do not affect any alerts you may have set up in eBanking, and apply only to purchases made with Signal VISA credit and debit cards.

Be notified when a purchase made with your card:

— was above a certain dollar amount
— was made outside the US
— was made online or over the phone

Purchase alerts can notify card holders almost immediately when their card has been used without authorization, and help reduce fraud, which is a good thing both for members and for the credit union.

Wire Transfers

Signal Financial offers the added convenience of wire transfers for our members.

  • Outgoing Wires—Domestic: $30

Wiring instructions for Signal Financial are as follows:

  • Please submit your request between the hours: 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Be prepared to show adequate identification
  • Members in the Washington Metropolitan area must go to a Signal Financial branch
  • Members outside of the Washington, DC, area, call 301-933-9100, ext. 298 or email memberservice@signalfinancialfcu.org for assistance.

The Capitol Hill branch and ATM are temporarily closed.

President's Day

Closure Notice

Due to inclement weather all Signal Financial branches are closed today. ATMs, mobile and online banking services are fully operational 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Digital Member support will close at 12 PM on Saturday, October 1st. Online banking and ATMs are available 24/7. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Labor Day Closure

All branches and the call center will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2022 in observance of Labor Day.

Independence Day Closure

All branches and the call center will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2022 in observance of Independence Day.

Juneteenth Closure
