Board of Directors Election

Each year, and in accordance with National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) election procedures, Signal Financial Board of Directors appoints a Nominating Committee to administer the election for open Board positions. For the 2017 Election, there will be three (3) incumbent positions under consideration. The Nominating Committee has reviewed all applications for these positions and has nominated applicants based upon their qualifications.

Candidates for Board of Directors

I have been a member of Signal Financial FCU for over 13 years and have served as a volunteer for the last ten (10) years. During that time I have fulfilled responsibilities to the members including the last 7 years as a Director. I am currently serving as your Vice Chair and Chairman of the Member Services Committee. I have previously served as Chairman of the Information Systems, Security and Volunteer Committees and Chairman of the Supervisory (Audit) Committee. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) as well as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and possess a strong information systems background, currently working as the Director, Business Information Systems for Asbury Communities, and a multi-state organization of Continuing Care Retirement Communities.

I am also a former 18 year Verizon employee. I graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. I completed my Masters in Information Technology degree in December 2013. I am also a lifetime member of the Washington Area Bicyclists Association and a member of the Maryland Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

I seek election to work with the membership and staff as we seek to continue to modernize our information systems and to enhance our capabilities to provide new services and improve those services we currently offer. I will continue to seek to grow Signal Financial FCU while maintaining our strong financial foundation.

Since first becoming a volunteer on the Supervisory Committee in 1998 and later as a Board Member in 2004, I’ve served and /or chaired numerous committees including Assets & Liabilities (ALCO), Compliance, Member Services, Information Systems, Security, Human Resources, Executive (Vice Chair and Treasurer). With nearly 30 years of experience with SFFCU and the telecommunications industry, my background is primarily in technology product management and strategic planning. As such, I try to approach problems from a process perspective — identifying areas of opportunity to better serve our members. I strongly believe continuing education is the backbone for all our volunteers and have completed over 40 educational modules from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and regularly attend conferences focused on credit union issues to stay current on trends affecting SFFCU.

It has been a tremendous honor to work with such a dedicated group of volunteers & staff members and I hope to have the opportunity to continue to assist and learn from them. For me, one of the most important principles behind a Credit Union is the idea of members working together to help other members. Volunteering with SFFCU has given me a great sense of satisfaction in making our credit union a better organization for us all.

I have been a member of the credit union for over 20 years. Since my involvement as a volunteer, I have served on the Executive, Human Resources, ALCO, Information Services, Member Services and Supervisory Committees. Part of the time I served as chair of the Supervisory Committee. Currently, I serve as chair of ALCO. I would like the opportunity to continue to serve to make the credit union the first choice in delivering your financial services. I feel the credit union offers the best financial value of any organization available. I have attended various conferences and completed over 40 education modules from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

My professional career includes over 16 years working at Verizon and its legacy companies. Currently, I am employed at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in the accounting organization.

I seek election to the Board to work with the credit union staff and volunteers to bring financial value to our members with the right mix of low loan rates and a safe place for your savings. I seek your support in the election so I can continue to work with other officials to deliver the best financial services to you, our members.
